The perfect cat toy: Everything you need to know

Posted by XXOO Pets Family on

1. The cat toy

Cat toys are more than just entertainment – they are an important part of your cat's mental and physical stimulation. They promote their hunting instinct, help reduce stress, and strengthen the bond between human and animal. Particularly popular: toys with feathers.

2. Why do cats love feather cat toys?

Feathers remind cats of birds, their natural prey. The fluttering movements and the light rustling activate their hunting instinct and encourage cats to play actively. They jump, sneak, and observe – just like in the wild.

3. Are feathers good for cats?

Not all feathers are the same. Some inexpensive toys contain synthetic or chemically treated feathers that can be harmful. At XXOO Pets Family we use exclusively vegan, environmentally friendly feathers, which are made from plant materials. They are dyed with safe, water-based colors, so that your cat can play safely.

4. How do you play with a cat wand?

Cat fishing rods or wands are ideal for actively challenging your cat. Move the feather gently across the floor, jerk it away suddenly, hide it briefly behind furniture or under blankets – this mimics real prey and gets your cat moving. Make sure to end the game by letting the cat "win" – that is, allowing it to catch the feather.

5. Should I let my cat chew on feathers?

Many cats like to chew on their toys. That's fine as long as they don't swallow anything. If your cat chews on it vigorously, you shouldn't leave her unattended. If you have a dog in the household, pay special attention to toys with feathers. to put away after playing, as dogs can swallow feathers more easily.

6. Why does my cat destroy her toy?

Destruction is part of the game! For cats, tearing apart the "prey" is a natural conclusion to the hunting experience. When your cat dismantles its toy, it usually shows fun and satisfaction. However, be sure to replace worn parts in time to avoid the risk of injury.

7. How do I know when I should stop playing with my cat?

Observe their body language: If they turn away, lose interest, or become agitated, it's time for a break. Excessive panting can also be a sign. Ideally, short but frequent play sessions of 5–10 minutes are best.

8. What color for cat toys?

Cats perceive certain colors better – these include Blue, Yellow, Green and Violet. Playful, contrasting color combinations are ideal. Toys in these colors are stimulating and increase your cat's attention.
